High-quality CPR for adult, child, and infant response. BLS holds participants to the compression depth, rate, and recoil standards that hospital systems and EMS organizations expect during a real event. Technique adjustments across age groups, compression-to-breath ratios, and hand placement are all covered with the technique precision that clinical settings require.
AED use in a clinical context. AED training in BLS covers when to apply, how to coordinate pad placement during ongoing CPR without interrupting compressions, and how to manage shock delivery as part of a team response. The mechanics are similar to standard CPR’s AED component, but the team-coordination expectations are higher.
Response to breathing and airway emergencies. BLS covers airway management, when and how to use barrier devices and bag-valve-mask ventilation, and how to recognize and respond to airway obstructions and respiratory failures before they progress. This is one of the areas where BLS substantively exceeds what standard CPR teaches.
Team-based response techniques used in healthcare and patient-care settings. The course covers how multiple responders divide roles during a code, how leadership rotates between responders to prevent fatigue, how compressors switch every two minutes to maintain quality, and how the team communicates as a unit. In a real clinical setting, team coordination determines outcomes as much as individual technique.
Hands-on skill practice with Zoll AED Plus training units. The in-person portion of the class is built around skill demonstration on real training equipment. Participants run through response sequences with the instructor coaching and correcting in real time. By the end of class, you should be able to integrate into a team response at a hospital code or clinical setting and contribute the role expected of a BLS-certified responder.
