Workplace Solutions

This page is about The CORE Academy, a training center based in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania. As an American Red Cross Licensed Training Provider (LTP), we offer American Red Cross certifications alongside leadership development and workplace training for individuals, teams, and organizations across Northeast Pennsylvania.

We were built on a simple idea: training should change something. Not just check a box, not just satisfy a requirement, but leave the people who walked in better prepared than when they sat down. That belief shapes everything we do, from a single CPR class to a multi-session workplace program.

Every organization is built on the strength of the people completing the work. When individuals feel valued, understand their purpose, and are given opportunities to grow, they perform better, inspire others, strengthen their teams, and create environments where excellence becomes the standard.

For many organizations, work begins before any class is on the calendar. We sit down with leadership, look at what is actually happening across a team or department, and build a strategic plan that scopes the right training before we deliver it. The assessment-then-engagement model is how a lot of our most valuable work gets started.

First aid certification gives you the skills to handle injuries or health crises until paramedics arrive.

BLS certification gives you advanced life-saving techniques to support patients in cardiac arrest, respiratory.

CPR certification gives you life-saving skills to keep blood and oxygen flowing in a person.

The process of expanding an individual’s ability to guide teams, make decisions, and drive growth.

Involves proactive techniques to de-escalate distress, ensure safety, and help individuals regain stability.

The DSM-5-TR is the standard manual used by clinicians to diagnose mental disorders.

“Every organization is built on the strength of the people completing the work. When individuals feel valued, understand their purpose, and are given opportunities to grow, they perform better, inspire others, strengthen their teams, and create environments where excellence becomes the standard.”

What We Do

We train all kinds of people.

Individuals come to us for certifications and skills they need for work, school, or personal readiness. CPR. First Aid. AED. Basic Life Support. The training is hands-on, paced for adult learners, and built around real situations rather than theory. Organizations come to us when they want their teams stronger. We deliver Mental Health First Aid training (on-site at your location, NEPA and nationwide), leadership development, employee growth programs, HR and workplace culture training, behavioral management for high-stress environments, DSM-5 educational workshops, and personal development sessions that function as meaningful learning and growth opportunities for staff at every level.

Many of these arrive as part of a larger consulting engagement that begins with an organizational assessment. When the off-the-shelf options do not fit, we build something that does. We also offer a free on-site organizational consultation: before any engagement begins, we come to you, listen, and give you an honest read of what we see. No obligation. Just clarity.

State-Approved Professional Development

The CORE Academy is a Pennsylvania Quality Assurance System (PQAS) Approved Organization and a Pennsylvania Department of Education Act 48 Approved Provider. For Pennsylvania educators, Act 48 requires 180 hours of continuing professional education through an approved provider every five years to keep a certificate active. For early childhood and school-age professionals, PQAS is the state’s standard for approved professional development. Applications are currently in process to offer Continuing Education Units (CEUs) and Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits, further expanding access to high-quality professional development across multiple disciplines.

You may need a particular certification for work, a credential for a clinical program, or just the confidence to act when something goes wrong with a customer, patient or child. Our American Red Cross CPR, First Aid, AED, and Basic Life Support classes are hands-on, paced for adult learners, and built around real situations. Teachers, coaches, childcare staff, and people entering healthcare fields all train with us.

Something in your team needs sharpening. Communication. Leadership. Behavioral response. Onboarding. Many of our organizational engagements begin with a conversation and an assessment, not a workshop. We build a plan that scopes the right work before we deliver it. Schools, nonprofits, healthcare-related teams, and service providers work with us when they want their staff sharper.

NEPA Individuals & Organizations

Who We Serve

On the individual side, we work with people building careers in healthcare, education, human services, childcare, and community programs, along with anyone who wants to be ready when an emergency happens.

On the organizational side, we work with nonprofits, schools, healthcare-related teams, service providers, and the supervisors and managers who hold those teams together. The common thread: every group we work with wants something practical they can use on Monday.

Why Local Matters

Being based in Wilkes-Barre is not a footnote. It changes how we work. A regional training partner is easier to schedule with, easier to reach when something comes up, and easier to bring on-site when a team needs training delivered where they already are. For longer guides on certifications, workplace training, and behavioral topics, read the The CORE Academy blog. We serve participants and organizations across Wilkes-Barre, the Wyoming Valley, Scranton, and the broader Northeast Pennsylvania region. Closer is better.

What Sets The CORE Academy Apart

The credentialing and the catalog are table stakes in this industry. What actually distinguishes The CORE Academy is the way the work gets delivered and who delivers it. The CORE Academy is led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) with years of behavioral management experience working in high-stress, people-centered environments. The LCSW credential matters most in our behavioral and DSM-5 work, where the difference between credentialed-led training and someone reselling a packaged curriculum shows up in every conversation. For organizations evaluating who they trust with staff development that affects their team’s daily work, that credential is the strongest signal of substance behind the offer.

Hands-on certification training, not lecture-and-go

The American Red Cross certifications we deliver are run as actual skill-building sessions. Participants demonstrate every skill on training equipment. The instructor coaches and corrects in real time. People leave able to do the thing, not just describe it. This sounds basic, but it is not what most regional CPR providers actually deliver.

Programs for both individuals and organizations under one roof

Most providers do one or the other. We do both, and the combination matters. Individuals get the certification training they need. Organizations get the same provider for both compliance certifications and the broader leadership and workforce work. For employers, that means fewer vendors to manage and a partner who knows the team across multiple touchpoints rather than just one transaction.

A training catalog built around real workplace problems

Our service pages cover the topics that actually show up in organizations: leadership, employee development, HR and culture, behavioral management, DSM-5 educational workshops, and personal development. The catalog is shaped by years of consulting work, not by an L&D theorist’s view of what should be on a menu.

Flexible formats that fit individual learners and full teams

Open registration for individuals. Group certifications for teams. Multi-session series for cohorts. Year-long engagements for organizations going deeper. We design around how learning actually happens for working adults, which usually means meeting people where they are rather than expecting them to slot into a fixed format.

Ready to Take the Next Step?

A practical philosophy that connects what people learn to what they actually do next. CORE stands for Creating Opportunities for Reflection & Education. Reflection comes first because that is where the real learning starts. Education becomes useful only when people understand why a step matters, not just how to do it. This orientation toward applied learning is what separates training that sticks from training that gets a thumbs-up evaluation and is forgotten within the week.
