The CORE Academy delivers DSM-5 educational workshops in Wilkes-Barre, PA for professionals and organizations across Northeast Pennsylvania. DSM-5 educational workshops at The CORE Academy are designed for professionals whose work intersects with the diagnostic framework but who are not credentialed to diagnose or treat. The audiences we work with span healthcare-adjacent, education, and human-services roles.

What We Cover

Workshop content is scoped to your audience’s role and the specific framework areas they need to understand. The recurring topics cluster around six areas that show up across most engagements. The CORE Academy’s behavioral work is led by a Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), and the workshops draw on that clinical experience while staying firmly in educational territory.

DSM-5 framework and Structure

Workshops typically open with a framework overview: the purpose of the DSM-5, how it has evolved, the relationship between the DSM-5 and the DSM-5-TR (text revision), and the role of the framework in clinical practice and adjacent professional settings. This orientation gives staff a foundation for the more specific content that follows.
How diagnoses are organized and categorized within the framework. Workshops cover the major diagnostic categories at a level appropriate for the audience. Schools-focused workshops emphasize categories relevant to students; behavioral health workshops emphasize the categories most common in their client populations; healthcare-adjacent workshops emphasize the categories staff encounter in clinical documentation.

Professional Language

Terminology used in diagnostic contexts – a meaningful portion of every workshop focuses on language. Staff who do not work clinically still need to understand what clinicians mean when they use specific terms, what the difference is between casual usage and clinical usage of common words, and how to communicate respectfully and accurately in conversations where diagnostic language appears.
 

Staff Roles in Service Settings

How the framework intersects with staff roles in service settings. Workshops connect the framework content to the specific roles in the room. What does this mean for what you do day-to-day? How does it change how you approach a specific situation? Where is the boundary between your role and a clinician’s? These are the questions that turn framework education from abstract to applied.
 
Discussion-based learning paced for working professionals. Workshops are facilitated discussions, not lectures. Working professionals bring real situations from their work and apply the framework to them in conversation, which is how the learning actually becomes useful. The format is designed for adult learners who are juggling the workshop with active job responsibilities.

They are not clinical training, diagnostic certification, licensure preparation, therapy training, or patient-care instruction. Participants leave with framework understanding. They do not leave with clinical credentials.
