The CORE Academy delivers leadership training in Wilkes-Barre, PA for supervisors, emerging managers, and senior leaders across Northeast Pennsylvania. We do not run cohort programs that staff have to apply to and graduate from. We build leadership development around what your team actually needs, in formats that fit working adults and the realities of their roles.

Who Leadership Training Is For

Leadership training at The CORE Academy is built around the actual people doing leadership work, not a generic management theory. The audiences we work with span the leadership lifecycle.

Emerging Managers

When stepping into their first leadership role first-time supervisors are often promoted because they were good at the work, then handed responsibility for people without the training to manage them. This is the audience where leadership training has the highest visible impact, because the gap between individual contributor and leader is rarely closed by experience alone. We work with new managers learning to delegate, hold accountability without breaking relationships, and shift from doing the work to enabling it.

Supervisors and Team Leads

Carrying day-to-day operational responsibility. This audience often gets the least formal development despite being the layer that determines whether work actually gets done. We focus on the practical tools that change daily interactions: feedback that lands, decision making under pressure, and the communication habits that build trust without taking forever.

How We Deliver

Leadership training can run as a standalone workshop for an individual or team, as a multi-session series for a department or cohort, or as a component of a broader consulting engagement. For organizations developing leadership systematically, leadership work often becomes part of a larger partnership that begins with an organizational assessment.

Who We Support

Managers and Leaders

Some have been leading for years but are facing new challenges: a growing team, a difficult transition, a leadership team that is not aligned, or a culture that has drifted from what they thought they built. The work at this level is less about technique and more about adjustment, perspective, and the strategic questions that come with broader responsibility.

Building a Leadership Pipeline

When a school, nonprofit, or service organization decides to invest in leadership systematically, we work across multiple layers at once. New manager development, mid-level coaching, and senior team alignment can all run in parallel, and they reinforce each other when they are designed as a coordinated engagement rather than separate workshops.

Individual Leadership Skills

Some participants come to us not as part of an organizational engagement but because they want to grow. We run leadership work for individuals when the situation fits, particularly for professionals moving toward their first supervisory role or preparing for a step up in their current organization.

Behavioral health and support teams including outpatient programs, residential programs, day programs, and care coordination teams. These clients often come to The CORE Academy specifically for behavioral management and DSM-5 educational workshops, then expand into broader workplace training as the relationship develops.

What We Cover

Leadership topics are scoped to your team’s actual situation, not delivered as a fixed curriculum. The recurring areas we work in cluster around six themes.

Decision-making frameworks for managers

Leaders make hundreds of small decisions a day. We teach the practical frameworks that let you make them more consistently, communicate them more clearly, and reverse them less often. This includes the difference between decisions that need consensus and decisions that need decisiveness, the use of constraints to make decisions faster, and how to make decisions when the information is incomplete.

Communication and feedback skills. Most of what leaders do is talk. We work on the communication patterns that actually change behavior: feedback that is direct without being harsh, conversations that close loops instead of leaving things ambiguous, and the ability to deliver hard news in ways that maintain working relationships. Feedback skills in particular are where most leaders struggle and where small improvements compound quickly.

Setting Development Goals

Coaching and developing direct reports. Leadership work is not just about deciding things. It is about growing the people who report to you. We cover how to set development goals that staff actually engage with, how to coach without micromanaging, how to delegate in ways that build capability, and how to recognize when a direct report is ready for more responsibility.

Leading through change and uncertainty. Most organizations are in some form of transition most of the time. We work on the communication, decision-making, and team-management practices that hold during change. This includes managing through ambiguity, communicating before answers exist, and maintaining team stability when leadership itself is uncertain about the next move.

Building Psychological Safety

Building healthier team dynamics. Leaders shape the emotional climate of the team whether they realize it or not. We work on the practices that build psychological safety, on conflict patterns that erode trust, and on the small daily habits that determine whether the team functions as a unit or just shares a workspace.

Actionable Strategic Planning

Practical leadership tools you can use the day after a session. Every session ends with applied tools, not theory. We focus on what people will do differently Monday, not what they wrote down Friday. That orientation toward action is what separates leadership training that sticks from training that gets a thumbs-up evaluation and is forgotten within the week.

The CORE Academy

We do not sell a leadership curriculum and hand you a binder. Sessions are practical, paced for adult learners, and built around the real situations supervisors and managers face. We focus on what people will do differently on Monday, not what they wrote down on Friday.

CORE stands for Creating Opportunities for Reflection & Education. Leadership growth needs both. Reflection on how you currently lead, and education on the tools that make you better at it.

Leadership is not defined by a title - it is demonstrated through influence, integrity, and the ability to bring out the best in others. Organizations that intentionally develop their leaders cultivate stronger teams, enhance workplace dynamics, and produce results that endure long after a training ends.
